We all know how to do our math in this forum, no one has to tell us how we should compute Isabel’s filipino consanguinity. A filipino does not need to be 100% to be called a filipino. Mind you, anyone can be a filipino or any nationality for that matter. And there are filipinos who are caucasian looking too. If you want to be a citizen of Tongo, you can do this as well. Or a british subject is possible altogether if you apply for one. People change their citizenship for all sorts of reasons. We can’t fault them for this. Changing citizenship could also be a necessity for a bad or good rap as we would say. A Filipino Is As Filipino Can Be, which means it transcends or goes beyond the amount of filipino blood you have. Oh really ? she’s only 1/3 and that makes the son 1/4. Unless there was a spanish friar along the line that nobody knows considering that the spaniards were here for 600 years. There was one dark period in her life when filipinos could actually feel less proud of her and this was when she had an affair with super-rich but labor party forerunner Miguel Boyer, now husband, while she was the Marquessa de Grinon. When the affair was found out Spain was agog, and even more so when Isabel and Miguel were married right after Isabel’s divorce. Now, spaniards who remember that time would have to admire Isabel’s courage and foretempt when she told the press that she was not embarassed about her affair with Miguel. During that time, she came to visit friends in Manila and attend the usual weddings but one Philippine magazine had her on the cover with a somewhat scolding which I don’t think was the intention of the magazine editor but probably realized the gaff later. She was on the cover looking as gorgeous in yellow as the sun was when I saw her on it on that sunday afternoon and it said, “Isabel !”, the article mentions the affair and how it was found out. Hmmmm….I always dissect this part of her life to try to figure out why. I came up with this and permit me to divulge to you how I saw her in this situtation. We are filipinos and we like to think that we were brought by our parents with good moral values, good character, and for sure we were brought up not to lie. Before we all judge her on this dark period in her life, I would like to ask this question to anyone out there reading this; Do you know of anyone who “deserves” an affair ? I cannot even ask such a question to my mother whose a devout catholic, and who will surely throw one of her slippers at me for even asking that question, and what a question to ask anyway. But do you anyone in your family who deserves an affair ? And what about your friends ? Do you know of anyone of your friends who deserves an affair ? I, actually know of one who deserves an affair. That would have to be my sister, one of my older sisters (you can imagine my mother throwing the other slipper at me right ? :-)). The sister that got married at age 19 when it was impossible for her to hide it. There was no problem with money on both families, they got married as it was how it was done when dealing with pregnancies such as my sister’s. It was a life she quickly fitted in. three more babies in the next five years, one more 7 years after that, and was that amen. Both my sister and her husband’s lives revolved around their children. The van, or range rover would pull up on our driver and the children would pop out as like in the movie when that little furry monster would get wet. Then three yayas would emerge to catch up with the little ones before my bro would emerge then my sister finally. It was something like this when we met in hongkong during vacations, in LA, NY. I was relieved that they were vacationing elsewhere when we were travelling in Europe. Nobody really wanted to travel with family members that had a delegation in tow. But that was what sister was used to. My bro-in-law took care of everything. Every vacation was arranged packaged deals. All they have to do was show up. The kids grew up, gossip about infidelities crept up in family discussions right from the start. My sister would end up asking my father to intervene. They eventually made up, only to start again when my bro took fancy with another mistress, and so on and so on. There is no problem with money in this household my sister would say. The problem is that this one faucet keeps leaking and I’m so desperate at shutting off this particular faucet she would add to our laughs. Then she ask about my backpacking in parts of Asia, exotic places on the cheap, trecking in Guatemala, travelling on the cheap in Western Europe, riding trains in China, cockroaches, bed bugs in the guesthouses in Laos, Khaosan road and it’s craziness, meeting interesting people and making so many friends all over the countries I visited. It was all one way communication. She would ask the questions and i would answer them. Yes she was very interested in what I had to say,anything I said for that matter. I felt she always hung on to stories I would tell her. I always told her to come but she was too busy. So many of this story telling, adventure telling between my sister and I through the years. More countries, more friends, more color, and my sister was listening and asking how I got from here to there, why so cheap, and laugh. Only then did I actually realize that she was too old to even be invited to treks, backpacking, etc. How sad I realized and toldmy parents one day. My father said that sister of mine missed a lot of things that she never was able to do because she got married at such a young age period. All she could do is ask me about these adventures that she coud not anymore. Her life was devoted dutyfully to her children and fighting with a husband who was prolific with his infidelities. Can you my sister missed a lot in her life, years lost and in a miserable state of marriage with a husband like hers. The kids were worth it and she would do it again, for those children she has are worth it. She did her job as a mother well and the children were all brought up well, educated well, and their future somewhart assured. One thing no can, and not even her husband can deny is that she was a mother to the family and took care of everyone from the start and as long as she is alive. I would have to say that it is she deserves an affair, if only she could have an affair. It would be nice for her. At 65 ! :-) I would just have to look the other way during kissing part. :-)

I believe Isabel Preysler took it on herself to have an affair with Miguel Boyer because it was whispered in social circles that the Marquis was a philanderer. She was taking care of four chidren and her husband te Marquiss. She probably told herself, I will always wonder what my life will be with Carlos. But we also know no one thinks like that. It’s all about 1. happiness 2. youth.

And to think that she is in good terms with all three husbands is a rarity nowadays.

Isabel Preysler is a woman of substance. She has her life to prove it. Now match that life with her famous gowns, her jewels (an avid faux and real jewelry wearer like Elvira Manahan), her children that she and her husbands brought up, her elegance that everyone’s talking about, the overall execution and the pageantry (we should always forgive her everytime she struts in and out of openings, galas, dinners, inaugurations, for she does it so well and let’s face it she would not do her walk if no one was looking and taking pictures right ? so let’s forgive her for that) she definitely came through if you get my meaning. All of this is why I say that she’s a woman of substance.
